SAGE - Funeral services for george W. Sage, 70, resident of Toppenish for 40 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hopkins Mortuary. The Rev. Earl Reisner will officiate. Burial will be in Zillah Cemetery. Mr. Sage died Saturday night. Survivors include his wife, Emma; a son, Arthur of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. Retha Champlin of Florence, Ore., and Mrs. Vera Fitzsimmons of Klamath Falls, Ore.

HARLEY D. KREIGH
Harley D. Kreigh, assistant cashier of the Batavia Savings Bank and one of the highly esteemed citizens of the town, was born in Knoxville, Illinois, on the 24th of May, 1881 and is a son of John S. and Eva (Allen) Kreigh. His father, a well known farmer of Jefferson County, was born in the vicinity of Hagerstown, Maryland, while the grandfather, John Kreigh, was a native of Pennsylvania of German extraction. The mother, who was of Scotch descent, was born and reared near Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois. In 1887, together with his wife and family, John S. Kreigh came to Jefferson County, locating on a farm in Locust Grove township, north of Batavia. After five years residence there he removed to a farm five miles north of Batavia, in Wapello county, where he continues to live. The mother, however, passed away in 1895. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Kreigh numbers seven children: Frank, who is deputy sheriff of Wapello County, now living near Ottumwa; Harley D, our subject. Fred, who is operating his father's farm in Wapello county; and Mary and Alice, both of whom are still at home; James, an employee of the J.H. Marrell Company, of Ottumwa, Iowa; and John, who is attending Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois.
The first eighteen years of his life Harley D. Kreaigh spent on his father's farm, his early education being acquired in the district schools of the neighborhood. After completing the course therein he attended the Knoxville high school for three years, then entered Brown's Business College at Galesburg, Illinois, from which institution he was graduated in 1898. He began his business career in the St. Louis store at Ottumwa, Iowa, being identified with that enterprise for eighteen months. In the fall of 1901 he came to Batavia to become assistant cashier of the Savings Bank. During the ten years in which he has been identified with this position he has proven himself to be a business man of more than average capability and efficiency, whose trustworthyness and reliability has won him hosts of friends. The Batavia Savings Bank, which is now entering upon the twentieth year of its existence, was organized in 1892 with a capital stock of ten thousand dollars. It is recognized as one of the conservative and substantial financial institutions of the county, whose directors and officials are highly regarded among the business men of the state. The directors are: J.B. Mowrey, George P. Israel, W.A. Lewis, Peter Nelson and E.M. Sterner, while J.B. Mowrey, of Ottumwa, is president, George P. Israeil, vice president and W.A. Lewis, cashier.
On the 30th day of November, 1905, Mr. Kreigh was untied in marriage to Miss Alta Israel, a daughter of Robert and Louisa (Gonterman) Israel, both of whom are still living. Mr. Israel was formerly an agriculturist of Chaffee County, Colorado, but at the present time is engaged in mercantile business in Ottumwa, Iowa. One child has been born to Mr. and Mrs. Kreigh, Evelyn Lucille, whose birth occurred on the 21st of June, 1907.
Mr. Kreigh is identified with various fraternal orders being a member of the Modern Woodmen and Masonic lodges of Batavia, as well as the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, belonging to Lodge No. 347, Ottumwa, Iowa. His political support he accrods to the democratic party and has always taken an active and helpful interest in all municipal affairs. In 1902 he was elected to the office of town clerk, which he held for one year, while he served as mayor of the town from 1904 to 1906. He is one of the popular young business men of the town whose future career gives every assurance of being most promising.

Chester Eugene McBride, 88, of Batavia died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Mill Pond Care Center in Ankeny. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, with military rites conducted by the O.B. Nelson American Legion Post 3 and the Walter B. Shafer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 775 of Ottumwa. Open visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Teusday at the funeral chapel. Family will be present from 7-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
The son of Frank and Cora Ann Gonterman McBride, McBride was born Jan. 27, 1916, neat Libertyville. He married M. LaRue Shepherd Sept. 1, 1946 in Fairfield. She died July 1, 1981. Mr. McBride was reared and educated in Jefferson County. He attended Des Moines country school and graduated from Libertyville High School. He was in the wood-sawing business prior to World War II. He served as a machinist in the U.S. Army Air Corps, mostly in England. After his discharge from the military, he farmed near Libertyville and Batavia for the remainder of his life. McBride was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2271 of Fairfield and the W.C. Harness American Legion Post 667 of Batavia. His pastimes were fishing, hunting, telling stories of his childhood amd spending time with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Lewis and husband Bill of Des Moines and Linda McBride of Slater; and five grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eugene McBride; and one sister, Marjorie Catherine McBride.

Daily Democrat, Clinto, MO, Jan 2, 2002 - Norma Lou Swackhamer, daughter of Floyd A. and Monema Crump Swackhamer, was born May 7, 1931, in Kansas City, and died Monday, December 8, 2003, south of Kingdom City, as a result of an automobile accident. Norma garduated from Urich Hifh School in 1949 and attended General Hospital's School of Nursing in Kansas City where she graduated on September 12, 1952. She was a registered nurse and had worked at the General Hospital, Kansas City, moved to Oregon and returned to North Kansas City Hospital before completing her nursing career at the Fulton State Hospital. She was a member of the Millersburg Christian Church. Norma loved baseball and was an avid follower of the Kansas City Royals. She loved music and especially singing. She loved animals, especially her dogs. Riley and Spook. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by a half-sister, Shirley Miller and a son, Rick, Clinton, as well as a number of cousins, including Jerry Crump, Clinton, LaVerne Crump Stephens, Sedalia, Gary Crump, Urich, Sarah Elizabeth Mathews, Racket, Ruth Miller, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Jack Hoy, Jefferson City. Graveside services and burial were held at the Urich Cemetery on Sunday, December 14, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Steckley officiating. A memorial service was held at the Millersburg Christian Church on Sunday, December 21, 12 noon. Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton.

BUFFALO - The funeral for Flora May Duble, 82, who died Monday at the harper County Community Hospital in Buffalo, will be at 2 pm Thursday at the Buffalo First Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Rummage will officiate. Burial will be in High Point Cemetery under direction of Good Samaritan Funeral Service, Woodward. She was born May 21, 1909 in Beaver County to Thomas and Susan Carver Duble and was raised 15 miles southeast of Beaver where she attended Riverside School. She worked at Harper County Community Hospital for a number of years, moving to Woodward in the late 1970s. She worked at the Woodward Nursing Center before retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist at Woodward and the Buffalo Rebekah Lodge and VFW Auxialliary. Surviving are two sisters, Betty Burling and Vera Howell, both of Woodward; and one brother, Carver Duble of Buffalo. She was precede in deaty by six sisters and three brothers.

BUFFALO - The funeral for Earl Eugene Duble, 63, was held Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Buffalo. The Rev. Mark Sewell officiated. Burial was in High Point Cemetery under firection of Seeger Funeral Home. He was born June 5, 1931, in Buffalo to Carver and May Duble and died Saturday, Nov. 5, 1994 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Houston, Texas. On June 15, 1959, he married Earlene Smith at May. He served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was on the Selective Service Board for many years, remaining active until his death. He also served on the town board, school board and alumni. He opened the Ford dealership in 1962 and operated it until his death. He was a member of the Buffalo First United Methodist Church. Duble had received a heart transplant in October of 1986. Surviving are his wife; one son, Dan of Buffalo; one daughter, Gina Hilliard of Graham, Texas; his father, Carver Duble of Buffalo; one sister, Dorothy Fleming of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his mother. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church or to Harper County Community Hospital in Buffalo.

F.M. Carver Dies Suddenly At Fairview
F.M. Carver, pioneer resident of this community, died suddenly at Fairview Monday afternoon. Mr. Carver had been in poor health for some time and was in a doctor's office and suffered a stroke at the time of his death. He was 68 years old.
Mr. Carver came to this community in 1898. He farmed northwest of Okeene until a few years ago. For the past several years he and his wife have made their home with a daughter, Miss Bessie Carver, who is a school teacher in the Longdale schools.
He is survived by another daughter, Mrs. William White of Okeene, and three sons, Chester Carver of Okeene, and Riley and Fenton Carver of Hunter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Homestead M.E. Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Kattner. Burial was in the Homestead Cemetery. The Howley Funeral Home was in charge.
